About the WIS Annual Young Artist Competition
For more than 40 years, the Washington Idaho Symphony’s Young Artist Competition has celebrated and supported exceptional young musicians from across our region. Designed for high school and collegiate performers, the competition provides meaningful performance opportunities and financial awards at a pivotal stage in each musician’s development.
Finalists are selected through a competitive application and audition process and are invited to perform in a live recital before a panel of professional musicians and educators. Winners are featured as soloists with the Washington Idaho Symphony, offering a rare and formative opportunity to perform with a professional orchestra.
The Young Artist Competition reflects the Symphony’s long-standing commitment to music education, artistic excellence, and the cultivation of the next generation of performers. Many past participants have gone on to advanced musical studies, professional careers, and lifelong engagement with the arts.

High School Division Winners
The Washington Idaho Symphony congratulates Rosalie Nguyen and Amiah Van Hill for their outstanding performances in the High School Division of the 2026 Young Artist Competition.
Both musicians performed with the Symphony in April 2026 as part of the Emerging Narratives concert, celebrating the next generation of exceptional musical talent.

Collegiate Division Winners
The Washington Idaho Symphony congratulates Jordan Slaughter, Stella Rieth, and Skye Hansen for their exceptional performances in the Collegiate Division of the 2026 Young Artist Competition.
Co-first place winners, Jordan Slaughter and Stella Rieth, performed with the Symphony in April 2026 as part of the Emerging Narratives concert, highlighting outstanding emerging artists from our region.
