About Symphony &

Some of the best musical experiences happen outside the concert hall. That's the idea behind Symphony &.

The series began in Season 53 with Symphony & Sip, an evening of live music hosted at Merry Cellars Winery in Pullman. It was relaxed, it was social, and it brought WIS musicians together with the community in a way that felt fresh and natural. The response was clear — people were hungry for more experiences like it.

So we started asking: what else could music be paired with? A gallery opening? A craft studio? A local artisan market? The answer, it turns out, is almost anything. Symphony & is built on the idea that live music belongs in all kinds of spaces, and that pairing it with the arts, makers, and unique venues of our region creates something greater than either could offer alone.

Each Symphony & event is thoughtfully designed around its setting. The music, the ensemble size, and the format are chosen to fit the space and complement the experience — whether that means a string quartet moving through a textile installation or musicians playing among the barrels of a working winery. These are not scaled-down concerts. They are their own kind of event, intimate and immersive, designed for lingering and connecting.

Symphony & is also a celebration of this community. The Palouse and surrounding region are home to remarkable artists, craftspeople, and creative businesses. This series is our way of putting them in conversation with the Symphony — and inviting you to be part of that conversation.

We're just getting started. Stay tuned for upcoming Symphony & events, and join us as we keep finding new places for music to live.
